FREE TASTER CLASS ON TUESDAY 21st FEBRUARY 2012
Classes cost £35 for a series of five weeks
Baby yoga is widely recognised as one of the best ways for mothers to bond with their babies – while meeting other like-minded parents, and getting back into shape. As the first three months of a baby’s life are the most significant for the way they will build relationships as an adult, any activity that emphasises emotional development during this stage is vital.
Mum & baby yoga sessions involve playing together and yoga postures which will gently tone, stretch and relax. Emotionally, it helps build baby’s sense of trust, and Mum’s confidence in handling her new arrival.
Mum & baby yoga classes are suitable for babies from 6 weeks to crawling. Yoga mats are provided, but please bring a blanket for baby.

NEW YEAR YOGA
FREE TASTER CLASS
This is perfect if you're not really sure what a yoga class is like and if it is for you. Maybe you have heard stories of different types of yoga. Classes that are held in a 'sauna' studio where sweat drips off the end of your nose, or those that are filled with incense where you sit cross legged and meditate.
Iyengar yoga classes are neither of those, but the best way to find out is to come along and try for yourself. Suitable for every 'body' including beginners.
Daytime and evening classes start again in the New Year on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th January 2012, but you can join at any time. Please click on 'classes' page for details.
Phone or email for more information and to book your place for a free taster class.

YOGA IN WINDERMERE
Carolyn's first yoga break took place earlier this year, and was a huge success. Before the group left, a further provisional date for October was already in the diary.

"Thanks Carolyn for organising such a lovely weekend. Yoga in the Footprint was a real treat with superb classes progressing towards a well earned recuperative session. At the B&B Emma's hospitality and accommodation were outstanding - with breakfasts that I'm still hankering after!
Hope to do it again soon."
"Just back from an amazing Yoga break in Windermere. We stayed at the lovely Braemount House which serve the best breakfast I have ever tasted. From the welcome elegant afternoon tea onwards the service was faultless. We were guided us through a series of thoughtful classes over three days that improved my practice noticeably. The footprint building was the icing on the cake, just beautiful. A truly special place. All in all an inspirational weekend. I cant wait to do it all over again."
"First and foremost, thank you for a truly memorable weekend in Windermere. All the factors combined; great teaching, magical setting and harmonious group made the experience very special indeed. But the teaching, above all, was excellent, even inspirational."

In November, I was thrilled to be able to attend a month's intensive yoga course at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. This was very exciting as it was my first trip to India and the home of Iyengar yoga.
Guruji (as Mr Iyengar is known) is an amazing 92 year old. He still practises every day in the yoga hall from 9 - 12 am. As this is also a general practice period, we were priveleged to be able to watch this great yogi at work. Whilst holding his own poses (he uses props and support a great deal) he would also be instructing his granddaughter Abhay. He had a team of helpers and senior teachers gathered around, and very often many of us would join the throng as a particularly interesting point was being demonstrated.
When Abhay taught the morning class, it was with Guruji's guidance. Whilst practising at the side of the hall, he would be observing how we were working, and then telling her how to correct and improve our poses. She was his spokesperson - but it felt as if we were getting a class from Guruji himself!
Many of our classes were conducted by Prashant, Guruji's son. He focussed on yoga philosophy and encouraged us to develop the mental side of our practice and the use of the breath. We also enjoyed classes with other inspirational senior teachers such as Rajlaxmi, Raya and Gulnaz.
I am looking forward to sharing some of the teaching with my students over the coming months.

Demonstration Class
Despite horrendous weather, the Open Day at the Manchester and District Institute of Iyengar Yoga held in October was very popular.
Throughout the afternoon we had around 50 visitors, many trying taster sessions and finding out more about Iyengar yoga.
If you missed the Open Day, and would like to find out more about Iyengar yoga and the regular classes taking place at the centre, please contact janice.yates@sky.com 0161 368 3614.
